WHY ON-LINE TRAINING: In our fast-paced, knowledge-based society, on-line learning is becoming an exciting alternate delivery method for many people. Research studies demonstrate that self-directed, learning is effective and preferred by students training for child abuse prevention. Winning Kids Inc. is pleased to provide Plan to Protect™ On-Line Training.1
“Child abuse is no longer a secret. Thanks to preventative education and awareness, criminal code changes and overall public scrutiny, the public now knows that child abuse can and does occur in every part of society. Bringing the problem out into the open is a good first step toward ending the abuse and protecting children and youth. Every year, thousands of children in Canada are the victims of abuse. One out of every eight children will be a victim of some form of abuse before their fourteenth birthday. It is, therefore, very likely that adults working with children will encounter a victim. Knowing the signs and symptoms of child abuse may assist the person working with children in helping to prevent further abuse.”2
Insurance companies now require both orientation training and annual refresher courses to qualify for abuse coverage. Our survey reflects that 75% of respondents struggle to make this happen. On-line Plan to Protect training can be taken at the student’s convenience, from their own home, work, library, or school.
HOW DOES IT WORK:
·Modules are customized for the student that works with children, youth or both, in order that they will:
Understand the need and definitions of abuse;
Manage and assess risk;
Adhere to the insurance requirements of a screened individual working with children and youth;
Embrace procedures and policies needed to protect the child / youth and the organization;
Identify symptoms and signs of a victim who might be abused; and
Know how to respond and report allegations and suspicions of abuse.
·The training is designed so the volunteer / personnel will succeed while gaining required concepts.
A 30-day window is granted to complete all the modules successfully;
Modules can be completed one at a time than bookmarked for convenience, or completed in one sitting;
Students remain with a module until a 60% pass is achieved to insure the material is grasped;
At the end of each module is a case study with 6—12 questions which will help the student put the principles in context. The questions are not difficult, but will require concentration and comprehension of the materials; and
A certificate will be issued to the student and an email sent to the program lead when an 80% average over all the modules is achieved.
Estimated completion time: 2 hours.
